MoodBoard

This is my moodboard towards my circus theme. I have included images such as Harlequins and Mad hatters and Sherlock Holmes illustrations. The idea of the Mad hatter was my main theme, then I thought how I could make it more appropriate to my brief 'Circus Cabaret'. I noticed in the film of Alice in wonderland they use alot of Harlequin print. I decided to read more into Harlequins and found out they are mysterious and mischevious and almost like jokers, then over more time they became more known as jesters. I associated the Mad Hatter as being mischevious and joker like in the way he dresses and acts. I then looked more into the mysterious side, and this reminded me of Sherlock Holmes. The print on Sherlock Holmes coat reminded me of the patchwork you see in the Mad Hatters coat.

Research Towards My Circus Project

Desigual Cirque du Soleil:
This deisgn I like the most as it is bright and colourful which are the aspects of a circus. I like it aswell because the outfits are innocent and sweet and this contradicts what a clown is which is scary and playful. I also like the way balloons and rings have been included which are in a circus.




















Elsa schiaparelli Circus Collection:
I like this collection as it is classy, and she has also made something so wacky and crazy able to wear on the highstreet. I also like the rough and vintage textile print of the horses on the garment .































Galliano Circus Collection 1997:
This is my 3rd favourite as it is really wacky and over the top. It has bursts of colour and lots of texture which makes it more interesting to observe. This particular deisgn reminds me of flowers as the splash of colour coming from the centre reminds me of petals on a flower.

Bauhaus Triadic Ballet:
Lastly this is my least favourite deisgn as it is over the top and dull. It does not really show me that it is circus based however it shows a sense of strange and weird and unique style to it, just like what circus's are.

Research Towards My Circus Project

This is my Feedback on my first project.

Peer assessment:

• Need to work on samples

A question for you is...

My peer assessment I do agree with as my presentation and colour pallette was good and consistant. However I am weak when it comes to working with fabrics and creating garments or in this case samples towards my final garments. I also need to do more appropriate samples that I will include within my final design.

My final garment is in fashion as shops like ASOS and TopShop sell skater style dresses. I have used the browns and oranges and skin colours as it is autumn and these colours are in fashion during the autumn season.

Make do and mend VS Punk

Punk fashion started in the 1970's, but became huge in the 80's. This outrageous and offensive style was so popular Vivienne Westwood styled her clothes off of it. Punks were daring rebels, who wore alot of black and tartan and styled them further by wearing piercings and saftey pins and tore their jeans. This was to make a statement. Being nonconformist was the attitude to have.
Make do and mend started during the second world war. It became a lifestyle for women. Making clothes from bed sheets to lining your tights with gravy was just all part of make do and mend. Simple pearls where used instead of the flashy jewellery usually worn, as everything you could give was given to the war cause. Make do and mend was hugely military inspired, so mens old trousers or blazers or shirts were usually tailored or were embelished with the buttons you would see on a military jacket.
In my opinion make do and mend is more interesting and far more classy. It intrigues me to found out how women managed to get by on so little during the war and still look so classy.

What is a flat illustration ?

A flat illustration is a garment or garments drawing that is not on a model, close ups of the garment can be included on aswell as materials and colours you will be using.
