Ineterview someone living in 2013 about what they think about fashion and what effects fashion today and how ?

I asked my tutor in my class about fashion today especially what effects it.

What brands and styles are in ?
Brands such as River island and Next and House of Fraiser are in right now in my opinion.
As for styles, vintage is back in especially being more individual and unique with your vintage look. Also grunge and indie are back in lately.

What is music is popular today?
Types of music such as indie and pop and young boy bands are in right now.

Do people travel if so where to? Where is common to go?
People tend to travel alot more today, the further the better but mainly places such as Americda and Asia and Africa, just more western. This shows through in their clothing.

What colours are common today?
Quiet modest colours such as black grey and blue. As for high end colours its more monacrome and purple and yellow.

What celebs are popular today?
Alot of comedians are popular and young boy bands are extremley popular as well as pop stars.

These are my samples of which I have taken sections of my illustrations and decided to sample them. I have used techniques such as gathering pleats, embelishment, bows. Then I have cut out haltered necks and saches as I may use these towards my final garment. The haltered necks and gathering that I have decided to include in my samples have been taken from my artists work; John Galliano. John Galliono's Circus Collection includes gathered neck pieces which I wanted to use the gathering technique in my work. I also took the haltered neck from my research from my moodbaord on my blazer.  I think I needed  to do some more refined samples using fabrics that are appropriate to my colour pallette. In my opinion I really like my samples they link to my moodboard such as the bow also the neck piece I created was taken from my harlequin research.

 

 

The haltered neck on my blazer I had taken from my moodboard to create the sample, also the skirt on the harlequin image that has the zig-zag piece on top I created in a a sample as a neck piece.

 

This is my stretch body bodice. I have used a block template to design this. I have cut out two backs and two fronts,  then I have sewn up each leg on both halfs and then sewn the halfs together then sewn the full bodice together to produce this. In my opinion this looks very good however i need to improve more on sewing.

What to include on a fashion flat?

On a fashion flat you can include embelishment such as buttons or hand sewn on designs or beading. You can also add lines to show either where pleats or gathering would go or even darts. You can also include colour that is appropriate to your colour palette. You can also do a front and back design however this is more appropriate for your final garment design.

What is Haute Couture?

Haute couture means High sewing in French which is where it comes from. Haute Couture is high fashion. It is still high street but more expensive. Looking at my research from the visit to the Christian Dior exhibition, I would say that Haute Couture demonstrates more techniques and are a little more daring than high street fashion.

This is images I have taken from Christian Dior's exhibition. These garments demonstrate a range of techniques from embelishment on the dresses such as the buttons and hand sewn in designs to darts in the garments and gathered skirts. The tartan dress I especially love as it goes well with my theme and its pattern is perfectly aligned, the pattern does not slope or change throughout the whole garment. I also like the collar on the 'Ligne Aimant' as it is large and in your face, which is very cat walk like in my opinion.
